It's almost like I thought of this 3 weeks ago. Wait a minute it's EXACTLY what I thought of.

This will help the spam some. Does nothing about the bots.

They might have been thinking with only gold spammers in mind, but that will actually screw and probably deter new players, being under lvl10 and not being able to ask for help because can't use chat channels.

In my opinion a better fix is to automatically ignore any messages with certain parameters in them, like filtering, anything with the word gold, com, $, 3 W's (cause if you filter www they'll just type w w w), and other words they use in their spams that players wouldn't normally use below lvl10.

Also being a "westernized" version, they should have name restrictions too, I don't know how they would work that, but it's pretty obvious someone called Afklmnnljds is a random name created to spam, no one in their right mind (aka dis might do it  Grin ) would lvl to 50 with names like that and play actively hoping to build a good rep.

Pedro those are all neat ideas, but as someone who works with computers every day, trust me it seems much easier to think of then to actually do.  And ban the word "Gold" so they use "Gill" or "G" or "Money" or any of 100 others.  And once you ban it too much then you have limited trade since I can no longer attempt to sell anything because I can't tell anyone the price.

I want all the garbage fixed as much as the next person, but I can admit it is not an easy job to find the balance between how to stop gold sammers, without ruining gameplay for the rest of us.  As said before, they did the "no one below level 10 can post to XX channels".  It's great because it stops gold sellers from just creating level 1 characters to spam people.  On the other hand it takes newer players and leaves them with no way to ask questions or ask for help, or even just talk to friends.

Try and ban names that don't fit a certain standard and that's hell to moderate.  This is a fantasy game so names like Slargoth or BackStabber, or whatever are perfectly legal.  Yes as a human I can look at abbbaaabbb and know it's fake, but to get a computer to figure it out is hell.  Heck even my name "Gwyyn" is not found in any baby book anywhere, and I've had people think I'm a bot because of it.

I'm not in any way saying there are not things they can do because I definitely believe there are.  But I just want you guys to realize that it's not as easy to get a computer to do the things you do every day as it seem (and THANK GOD it's not, or they would have replaced half the world in our jobs by now).

Let's hoping they actually do some of the stuff they can do, and so far I think they are trying to do what they can.  It's not perfect, but at least they are doing something.

Just add  a channel that Everyone can talk in , yeah a lot of people will turn it off due to the gold spam, but there might be a few that still stay in it, plus the other level 1-10s will probably keep it up. It at least offers them a way to ask , but they have to get spammed to do so.

My idea was until level 10 you can only whisper to people in your legion or in the same zone as you. That allows people to get help within the noobie zone (and deal with the spam there) but once you hit 10 you're done dealing with the spam.
